Registration Opens and Call for Abstract

A. Background

Founded in 1993, WiN Global is a not-for-profit global organization which supports and encourages women working in the nuclear field throughout the world, particularly in energy, medicine and health care, food and agriculture, other radiation applications, regulations and independent research. WiN Global aims to promote the understanding and public awareness of the benefits of nuclear and radiation applications through a series of active networks on a national, regional and international level. WiN Global currently has around 35,000 members of mainly female nuclear professionals including chapters’ members and individuals from 109 countries, regions and international, and is still growing. It also aims to raise awareness of the safety measures to ensure protection of the public and the environment, thereby enhancing the quality of life. Every year, a chapter of WiN Global organizes the annual conference, which is a unique occasion for the WiN Global community to meet.


B. Objectives

The 25thWiN Global Annual Conference will highlight the vital role women play in all applications of nuclear science and technology, especially in research and development, education and training, management and engineering. At the same time, it will provide opportunities for exchanging ideas on the pursuit of harmony in nuclear technology and application, particularly on harmony between human and nature, harmony between the industry and the public, harmony between career and family.


C. Conference Program Structure

The conference will mainly consist of:

1. An opening plenary session with high-level speakers;
2. The WiN Global General Assembly and chapter reports;
3. Contributed posters;
4. Topical panels;
5. A closing plenary session;
6. Technical and cultural tours (optional and foreign participants only).

Technical visits are planned to China Institute of Atomic Energy in Beijing and to the CAP1400 demonstration nuclear power project, Haiyang nuclear power project construction sites in Shandong Province. Details will be made available on the conference web page in due course.


D. Panel Topics

Panels will cover the following topics:

1. The Charm of Nuclear
This panel will focus on nuclear technology and application in nuclear energy, food and agriculture, health, water, environmental protection and industry. Stories about the impact of the promising nuclear technology around the world are encouraged.

2. Women in Nuclear
This panel will highlight the vital role women play in all application of nuclear science and technology, especially in research and development, education and training, management and engineering.

3. Nuclear Cooperation
This panel aims to promote the collaboration among WiN Chapters and members, and through the cooperation with international organizations including the IAEA, etc.

4. Nuclear Safety
This panel will discuss on safety culture, regulation and the involvement of women professionals.

5. Harmony in Nuclear
This panel will communicate on the pursuit of harmony in nuclear technology and application, particularly on harmony between human and nature, harmony between the industry and the public, harmony between career and family.


E. Target Audience

The target audience comprises professionals (including those who have just embarked on their careers), in particular women, working in all applications of nuclear science and technology.


F. Participation and Registration

All persons wishing to participate in the conference are requested to register online in advance through the conference web page and make the payment as early as possible. Participation can only be confirmed once the online registration has been completed and payment has been received. For information about registration fees, please refer to Section H.

The registration system has been officially opened since May 1st, 2017.


G. Abstracts and Posters

Paper abstract is not a must for conference participation, but is strongly encouraged.

Abstract topics fall into the following 5 categories, please choose one of them to develop your abstract:

1. Career Development of women in nuclear-related fields and public communication;
2. Nuclear energy and environment;
3. Nuclear applications;
4. Nuclear energy development and regulation;
5. Nuclear safety and security.

G.1 Abstracts

All abstracts submitted must present original work and should not have been published elsewhere. They should have been scrutinized by the author's employer and do not involve confidential information of any kinds nor copyright infringement. The author will be fully responsible for any disputes or liabilities thereof.

Abstracts must be written in English and submitted in electronic format (no paper copies). Instructions on how to upload the abstract are made available on the abstract submission system. Abstracts should be submitted through this system from 1st May to 9th June 30th June, 2017. No other form of submission will be accepted.


G.2 Poster

Authors can log in the abstract submission system to see whether their abstracts have been accepted for poster presentation. Deadline for abstract acceptance notification will be 23rd June 7th July, 2017, and deadline for poster submission will be 31st July 2017.

Participants who wish to present a poster at the conference must complete the registration, make the payment, submit an abstract on one of the above-mentioned topics, and receive the abstract acceptance notification for poster exhibition.

H. Expenditures

300 US$ registration fee is charged to participants (for local participants: 2000 CNY).

Cultural and Technical Tours will only be open to foreign participants. Technical tours are free of charge and the destinations are China Institute of Atomic Energy in Beijing and the CAP1400 demonstration nuclear power project, Haiyang nuclear power project construction sites in Shandong Province.

Destinations of Cultural Tours are the Greet Wall, the performance theater and the Palace Museum, all of which will be on participants’ own cost.

I. Venue and Accommodation

The conference will be held at the National Convention Center in Beijing, China. Participants must make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Detailed information on accommodation and other relevant matters have been posted on the website homepage.


J. Working Language

The working language of the conference will be English. All communications, abstracts, posters and chapter reports must be prepared in English.
